Teaching Kids Patriotism Through Memorial Day

teaching-kids-patriotism-through-memorial-day

Memorial Day, a federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors the brave men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. At Montessori Kid’s Land Academy in Redlands, CA, a preschool and infant center in Redlands, California, we believe it’s never too early to begin fostering a sense of patriotism in our children.

Our infant center curriculum subtly introduces concepts of patriotism. We hang age-appropriate American flags in our classrooms and play patriotic songs during diaper-changing routines. As children progress through our preschool program, we introduce them to symbols of America, like the bald eagle and the Statue of Liberty.

Memorial Day offers a valuable opportunity to engage children in age-appropriate activities that nurture patriotism. Here are a few ideas that can be implemented at Montessori Kids Land Academy in Redlands, California:

  • Create a Memorial Day Craft: Preschoolers can create paper poppies, a symbol of remembrance, or color pictures of American flags.
  • Learn About Heroes: Read children’s books about American heroes, or discuss stories of family members who have served in the military.
  • Hold a Moment of Silence: Even young children can participate in a brief moment of silence to honor fallen soldiers.

Montessori Kid’s Land Academy, a trusted childcare provider is committed to fostering a love of learning and a sense of community in our children. If you’d like to learn more about how we incorporate patriotism into our curriculum, or if you’re interested in enrolling your child in our infant center or preschool program, please contact us today!
